Green Engineering for us means the identification of the best possible solution for an environmental problem.

Our focus is always on the use of green technologies.

In order to remediate contaminations, we use a proven green technology in combination with a groundbreaking application know-how, which has been developed in over 20 years of practical work. As part of natural processes, microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria specialise in any contaminants in contaminated soils over many years. These organisms use the contaminants as a source of food and energy, they metabolise them to a certain extent and thus degrade the pollutants.

Through our process, we are able to activate, optimise and considerably accelerate these natural processes. Pollutants are encapsulated, transformed and made almost harmless in a short time.

It is our duty to optimise the environmental conditions for the microorganisms.

Bioremediation is essentially based on the interactions between soil organisms (bacteria and fungi), nutrients and pollutants. It is a series of processes which, by adding nutrients for the existing microorganisms, bring about an optimised reduction of pollutants in soil and water. These are specially cultivated, pollutant-specialised microorganisms and natural minerals. In contaminated soils, the natural microorganisms adapt to the pollutant as a survival strategy and can thus be used in remediation. They resist the toxicity of the pollutant and can even utilise it well. These microorganisms are thus already specialised to the site-specific pollutant. This is Geobality's approach, optimising the natural circumstance with proprietary technologies.

Mining, oil and gas extraction, industrial processes and agriculture, can pollute the soil and are a major problem worldwide. Efforts are being made to reduce the production of industrial and agricultural pollutants at source. Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem of contaminated sites, where pollutants may have been released into the environment since the beginning of industrialisation. These pollutants can remain in the soil for thousands of years.

Simplicity of use - Our methods even allow for remediation under existing buildings and pathways. This eliminates the cost of demolition and any new construction work.

In situ remediation methods allow remediation through minimised intervention in the soil or aquifer system. This not only minimises the damage to the environment compared to conventional "dig and dump" methods, but also reduces costs, as less machinery, transport logistics and personnel have to be used. Last but not least, landfill costs are also saved.

Approach - To remedy contamination, Geobality uses only organic and certified additives that support naturally existing microorganisms and usually always improve the soil.

The first step is to investigate the site using existing surveys, site inspection and sampling. The problem is then described in a system model. If requested, this can be visualised with a digital model so that possible interventions can be represented more easily to third parties (authorities, etc.).

Based on the site information, a concept for a feasibility study is designed. As part of the feasibility study, site material is brought to the laboratory. There, an optimised remediation solution is developed in experiments. The aim of this is to ensure that the natural microorganisms metabolise the pollutants optimally.

Once an optimal remediation solution has been found, it is tested in a long-term trial to determine how the microorganisms develop and how much time is needed until the remediation goal is achieved. These findings are transferred to the site in a test field. Remediation begins as soon as it is confirmed that the remediation concept is effective.

In order to optimally accompany the remediation process, we use monitoring methods that correspond to the current state of the art. Not only are radio-controlled probes used for this purpose, but the results of the sampling are also compared with the model created in the feasibility study. This ensures that any differences between the processes in the laboratory and on site can be quickly rectified.
